00:18
we'll talk about happiness as gained
00:20
through habit formation being inspired
00:22
by the stories of others and looking for
00:24
opportunities of growth and learning I'm
00:26
Taylor Proctor thanks for tuning in

00:40
hey guys welcome back it's Thursday
00:43
which means it's a special day on the
00:45
podcast instead of talking to you about
00:46
my latest findings and potential
00:49
insights I instead read to you from the
00:51
happiness of bound comm blog we release
00:54
a blog post every Thursday and this
00:58
Thursday's is about being a little weird
01:00
so it's a little bit of a shorter blog
01:02
so that means this will be a shorter
01:03
episode but I do this because a couple
01:06
of reasons one and I did mention this in
01:08
episode one that if you're like me
01:12
you've scanned posts and if you like the
01:14
headlines and the subheads enough you
01:16
might read it but for the most part you
01:18
scan the post and you get the gist and
01:19
we're a nation that doesn't read
01:21
articles so much anymore so I think an
01:24
audio format might be a great way to
01:26
gain those same insights without taking
01:29
the time to have to read it the other
01:31
thing is there may be some readers out
01:33
there who have to listen to the article
01:35
being read by a robot anyways so instead
01:38
of that maybe they'd like to tune in to
01:40
the podcast and have it be read by the
01:42
author me and on that note let's dive
01:45
right in scared of being weird weird
01:48
leads to success have you ever worried
01:51
about being thought of as weird it comes
01:53
across my mind right before I bust out
01:55
my sprinkler and running man dance moves
01:57
before I tell an incredibly corny joke
02:00
before I say that I wake up before 5:00
02:02
a.m. and before I start talking about my
02:05
blog about happiness weirdness equals
02:08
success here's the thing though weird is
02:11
what leads to success Michael Jordan was
02:14
considered weird for practicing
02:16
basketball so much Oprah was considered
02:18
weird for wanting to host a television
02:20
show Gary Vaynerchuk is thought of as
02:23
weird because of his work ethic Dave
02:25
Ramsey is weird because he is debt free
02:26
in his personal life and business in
02:28
fact Dave Ramsey has a quote that's
02:30
pretty well-known debt is normal be
02:33
weird weird in the real world I'd like
02:37
to share a personal example as you may
02:39
know I have tried to rid myself of TV
02:41
and Netflix several times the other day
02:44
I was talking to my husband about how
02:45
much more I get done and how much better
02:47
I feel when I don't waste time in front
02:49
of the TV but
02:51
one of the hardest parts is that it
02:52
makes me feel weird to talk about it
02:54
it is weird not to know about the latest
02:56
shows or be able to join those
02:58
conversations is weird to say that I
03:00
don't want TV in my life but my husband
03:03
gave me an insight that has led to this
03:04
post and a better resolve to be weird he
03:08
told me that you don't hear the most
03:10
successful people talking about TV shows
03:11
that you're talking about the things
03:13
they do that the average person doesn't
03:15
be a little weird the point is everyone
03:18
has the potential to be happy and
03:20
successful but it may mean being a
03:23
little weird weird means passing on a
03:25
dinner with friends or new clothes to be
03:27
debt-free weird means spending 3 hours a
03:30
day practicing weird means saying daily
03:33
declarations out loud to yourself
03:35
weird means following your dreams and
03:37
not worrying about how it will make
03:40
other people feel so the next time
03:42
you're worried about being weird just
03:45
remember that being weird is what
03:47
separates the successful from the rest
03:49
of the world so then the question
03:51
becomes how are you weird pretty short
03:55
and simple right so the question is like
03:57
it ends how are you weird and I'm gonna
04:01
share a little bit because that's what I
04:03
do on this podcast of the ways that I am
04:05
weird I mentioned them in the top of the
04:08
article I do total white girl dance
04:11
moves running man and the sprinkler are
04:14
my oh and the shopping cart and mowing
04:17
the lawn pretty much I think that has
04:19
the Running Man variation are my go-to
04:21
dance moves and they're a little weird
04:23
and totally lame but I don't care
04:26
they're fun another way I'm a little
04:28
weird is I spend my time doing a podcast
04:30
and I write a weekly blog post I
04:33
secretly love TV well I guess it's not
04:36
so much of a secret but I hate it at the
04:39
same time because of how it makes me
04:41
feel and because of how it totally
04:43
drains my productivity and energy levels
04:46
so I'm weird because I do my best to
04:48
stay away from TV and in fact I like
04:51
movies but if I could convince my
04:54
husband to get rid of the TV in the
04:55
house I would although it might look
04:58
weird in the living room because we have
04:59
it on a column and that would look very
05:01
barren and and dull
05:04
if we remove the TV the point is that we
05:07
all have things that make us weird and
05:09
then we all have things that we may want
05:11
to do that we don't because we don't
05:14
want to be perceived of as weird and I
05:18
just want to say it's okay to be weird
05:21
and to give up TV or to wake up at 4
05:26
a.m. to train for a marathon or whatever
05:28
your level of weird may be and let we
05:31
could substitute weird for crazy by the
05:33
way because I think a lot of people when
05:35
they hear you wake up at what time to do
05:37
what that's crazy right no it's ok to be
05:41
a little crazy it's ok to be a little
05:43
weird because that's what's going to
05:44
lead you to your goals and your dreams
05:47
and success in those areas so super
05:52
short podcast today but I hope that's
05:54
okay I hope this has given you something
05:56
to think about and I would love to hear
05:58
how you are weird so feel free to leave
