HOW TO KEEP GOING WHEN YOU WANT TO QUIT

Have you ever hit a wall and wanted to quit something? Whether things have gotten too hard or boring, whether it's a sports team, writing a novel, or several hard weeks at work, we all at some point have hit a wall in our lives and thought about how much easier it would be to quit. And sometimes, it's ok to quit but other times, you need to keep going. Keep writing to finish the book. Keep playing so you don't let down your team. Keep working to pay the bills. You get the idea.

So what should you do when you hit that wall? Reconnect, Reframe, and Reboot.

Reconnect. 

If you feel like you want to up and quit, it may be time to reconnect to the reasons why you started in the first place. Training for a big athletic event and feel like it's getting too hard? Ask yourself why you wanted to do it. That original motivation can help push you through the hard times.  Been working at your job and gotten bored of the day-to-day? Take a look around and explore why you wanted to or began working there originally. If those reasons are still around, try to reconnect to them. 

Reframe

The daily grind can feel monotonous and hopeless. Luckily, you have the power to frame it to be something different. Start by trying to look at and do things a different way. This can add a bit of color back into the tasks at hand and help you reframe how you perceive your situation. Another thing to do? Stop seeing it as a challenge and look for the opportunity. If you hate your situation it could be an opportunity to push yourself to find something different, learn to let go, or see what it takes to push through the hard times. 

Reboot

Lastly, sometimes all we need is a reboot to keep going. A vacation, a healthy cry, or even a good night's sleep can make all the difference in how we see our situations and our desire to quit. A vacation can give a mental and physical break while a good cry can help us release the pent-up emotions that may be keeping us in a state of wanting to quit. And a good night's sleep? While that can make all the difference in your emotional, mental, and physical state.
