5 EASY WAYS TO BE HAPPIER IN 20 MINUTES OR LESS

Long term happiness is cultivated out of consistency and habits but sometimes we need a pick-me-up. To do this, we should have some quick tips in our toolbox. The tips below not only help you feel happier right away but also take 20 minutes or less. Implement these tips consistently and you can feel happier on a regular basis.

1. Get Outside

Studies have found that spending 20 minutes outside can instantly brighten your mood and make you happier. Exposure to vitamin D can reduce depression and research has found that even looking at photos of nature can increase happiness and positivity.  So the next time you are stressed or feeling less than happy, take a few minutes to step outside and get some sun.

2. Correct Your Posture

In the past I’ve talked about how having good posture can improve your mood and it does! Sit up straight, walk with your shoulders back and stand tall. In extreme cases look up towards the sky for a full minute and smile. Try it and see how much better you will feel.

3. Laugh Out Loud

The phrase, “Laughter is the best medicine,” is really true. Take 20 minutes to listen to your favorite comedian and just laugh. Or you can do what I do and look up corny jokes for a few minutes. My new favorite is this one:

4. Be Active

So being healthy and working out is one of the fundamentals of happiness but you don’t have to run 3 miles to feel better. Take 20 minutes and go for a walk around the block or enjoy a quick game of Frisbee golf. Like Elle Woods once said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.”

5. Set Your Intentions

Setting your intentions can improve your mood today (Who doesn’t love the excitement of setting goals and your intentions to meet those goals?) but it also can set a happy tone for tomorrow too. Set positive intentions and feel better right away.
